How do you read quilling instructions?
I’m new to quilling and am still unsure about how to read patterns. For example,
“Roll seven red 8-inch (20 cm) shaped marquises and glue together as show in the pattern…”
It could mean that the paper I start with is supposed to be eight inches in length, that I’m supposed to roll a full strip of paper and then drop it into a an eight inch hole on a measuring board, that the roll I start with should be eight inches across, or that the finished marquise should be eighth inches from one end to the other!
I’ve searched the internet and I have yet to find any information how to read quilling design instructions. So, could someone that has quilled / currently quills tell me exactly which is the right way of interpreting the instructions?

It is telling you the length and colour of the strip of paper to start with (20cm red)
the size of the finished piece will be small – you can get quilling boards (http://justquilling.com/quilling_tools) to keep your quilled piece in to keep its shape (before glueing) – it is a plastic or cardboard rectangle with different sized circles Cut Out in different sizes – this will keep all your quilled pieces a uniform size for your designs.
After you have glued your piece to its required size ( your choice – but they will never be very big if you start with a 20cm strip) then you can do the shaping.
